The Château Lynch-Moussas is located on the large plateaus to the west of the Pauillac appellation. Its name is inspired by the plateau where most of its vineyards are located.
The Château Lynch-Moussas was named Fifth Grand Cru Classé in the famous 1855 classification for the Paris Universal Exhibition.
The Castéja family acquired it at the beginning of the 20th century, and since 2001 it has been managed by Philippe Castéja, who has since given birth to great wines renowned for their finesse and structure.
The Château Lynch-Moussas is based on a 62-hectare vineyard planted on gravel soils, with 75% Cabernet Sauvignon and 25% Merlot. The wines are aged for 18 months in French oak barrels, with around 55% new wood.
The estate produces a Second wine, Les Hauts de Lynch-Moussas.
The Château Lynch-Moussas offer fleshy, concentrated wines with a fine tannic structure. Built for ageing, they are also accessible in their youth.
2020, the third musketeer in the highly successful trilogy of 2018, 2019 and 2020.
The characteristics of 2020 will be precocity, and moments of extreme drought. Precocity because, after a relatively mild winter, budburst starts quickly, followed by a clustered flowering in the first days of May. Uncertain weather in May and June will force us to be extremely vigilant in terms of sanitary conditions.
Early July saw the first grapes ripen, but this took longer than average due to the drought. This extreme drought lasted almost 2 months, from June 18 to August 13. As with all great vintages, the harvest took place entirely in September on both sides of the river. Superb Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon of excellent quality will give this great vintage the roundness, richness and elegance that characterize these great grape varieties.
