Vieux Château Certan 2012
Great wine of Pomerol
Vieux Château Certan
Vieux Château Certan is one of the most prestigious crus in the Pomerol appellation, with a wealth of expertise and craftsmanship. Since 1924, it has belonged to the Thienpont family, which has a strong presence in the great vineyards of Rive droite de Bordeaux.
Alexandre Thienpont and his son Guillaume are currently in charge, devoting all their passion and love to producing ever purer, more elegant wines, a mission that seems almost impossible given that the quality of the wines has long since reached its peak.
Vieux Château Certan is a 14-hectare single vineyard planted on the Pomerol plateau of clay, gravel and sand, with a high iron content in the subsoil. The grape varieties are 70% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. The wines are aged for 18 months in 100% new oak barrels.
La Gravette Certan is the Second wine produced on the estate.
Vieux Château Certan produces wines of infinite richness and seduction, renowned for their suppleness, freshness and persistence.

Description Vieux Château Certan 2012.
Elaborated from fifty-year-old vines, the wines of Vieux Château Certan are fleshy and velvety. The 2012 vintage is adorned with a magnificent, almost black garnet color. On the nose, it has an intense bouquet of black cherry, blackberry and plum. A hint of graphite appears after aeration, as well as a slight smokiness. On the palate, the wine is highly concentrated from the outset. The mid-palate is ample and the tannins are perfectly integrated, giving a very silky feel. Black fruit flavors mingle with vanilla aromas. The relatively long finish suggests superb ageing potential.
