Château Latour à Pomerol

The Château Latour at Pomerol is an icon among the Domaines wineries in the Bordeaux region. This renowned estate has a fascinating history, a deep winegrowing tradition and an exceptional Domaine that make it one of the most prestigious producers of Pomerol wines.

The history dates back to the 19th century, when the Mähler-Besse family acquired the property in 1917. This acquisition marked the beginning of a new era for Domaine, as the Mähler-Besse family set about modernizing and improving the quality of Latour wines at Pomerol. The Domaine remained in the hands of the Mähler-Besse family for several generations, until it was sold in 2003 to the LVMH family group (Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton), headed by Bernard Arnault.

The Domaine covers around 7 hectares of vines, mainly planted with the Merlot grape variety, which is predominant in the Pomerol region. These vineyards benefit from an exceptional terroir, characterized by sandy-clay soils rich in iron dross, giving the grapes a unique depth and aromatic richness.

The winemaking and ageing methods are traditional, with fermentation in oak vats and ageing in French oak barrels. This approach gives the wines refined tannic structure, aromatic depth and the ability to age magnificently over the years.

The wines are sought after by connoisseurs the world over for their elegance, balance and ability to faithfully express the unique terroir of Pomerol. Each vintage is an authentic expression of Merlot's potential in this region, and reflects the savoir-faire inherited from the Mähler-Besse family and now perpetuated by LVMH.

Description Château Latour à Pomerol 2018.

Charming Domaine from the Pomerol appellation, Château Latour owes its name to the small tower attached to the building. The vineyards, located on a wide variety of soils, give the wine its distinctive taste. With its complex bouquet, the 2018 vintage expresses notes of black fruit, roasting and undergrowth. Pomerol at heart, the palate is voluminous and racy. The tannic structure is imposing, but very velvety, making the wine very silky. The tasting ends with a lingering finish of pleasant raspberry aromas.
