Château Clos de Sarpe

The history of Château Clos de Sarte, located on the Sarpe plateau in Saint-Emilion, began when Baron Henri du Foussat de Bogeron acquired it in 1905. It was not until some fifty years later that the Beyney family, current owners of Château, purchased Domaine. It was subsequently passed down from father to son.

The wines are made with respect for family traditions. The techniques used bring complexity and precision, enabling them to rise to the rank of Grand Cru Classé in 2012. Two years later, Jean-Guy's niece Maylis joined the team with the aim of taking Château to the international elite.

Located in the heart of the Saint-Emilion vineyards, Château has 3.7ha of vines in a single block on clay-limestone soils. This exceptional terroir, a prerogative of great wines, provides the vines with a regular supply of water, giving the wines relatively low ph levels. The result is high quality wines that can be kept for several decades.

The Château Clos de Sarpe is planted with 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc, typical of Saint-Emilion. The vines have been cultivated with respect for the environment for many years, and in 2020, Château received Organic Agriculture certification. Mindful of climate issues, Maylis and Jean-Guy are introducing Petit Verdot into the 2023 blend to bring a little more liveliness.

Description Château Clos de Sarpe 2016.

Presenting a splendid ruby color, the wine opens up on the nose with an elegant, complex bouquet. Notes of blackcurrant, blackberry and blueberry mingle harmoniously with sweet spices and cocoa.

The palate is full and suave, with perfectly melted tannins that structure the whole. The finish is long and persistent, with a certain freshness characteristic of the clay-limestone terroir.
