Château Branaire-Ducru
The Château Branaire-Ducru is one of the most modern Domaines from Saint-Julien, whose particularly elegant wines invite nothing but pleasure. The first owner was a Bordeaux notary, Jean-Baptiste Braneyre, who in 1680 fully perceived its potential.
The Château as we know it today was built by his descendants, the Duluc family.
In 1855, the Château Branaire was named Fourth Grand Cru Classé in the famous classification formalized for the Paris World's Fair. The name Branaire (Duluc-Ducru) was finally adopted by Gustave Ducru in 1857. It wasn't until 1988 that it came under the banner of the Maroteaux family, marking the beginning of an era of modernity with the aim of producing great wines, irreproachable in expression and complexity. Today, François-Xavier Maroteaux is the second generation to uphold this philosophy.
The Château Branaire-Ducru lies on magnificent soil of deep gravel over clay, facing the Gironde estuary. The 60-hectare vineyard is 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 28% Merlot, 4% Petit Verdot and 3% Cabernet Franc.
The estate also produces a Second wine, Duluc de Branaire-Ducru.
The wines of Château Branaire-Ducru are wines of emotion: fleshy, complex and sign a true expression of fruit.

The year 2010 is a vintage with extremely solid foundations. The climatic conditions were indeed extraordinary, with a very homogeneous budding of the vine in April, a hot and dry summer and an alternation of sunny days and cool nights until the end of the harvest. The berries were very rich in aroma, colorful and with thick skins.
Blend of the 2010 vintage: 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23.5% Merlot, 2.5% Cabernet Franc, 4% Petit Verdot
The color is intense and deep red, almost purple, with slightly orange reflections.
The bouquet is very fresh, expressive and greedy, with notes of red fruits such as raspberry and ripe strawberry, wild berries and menthol, supported by a touch of cocoa and exotic spices.
Smooth on the attack, it develops with great depth and concentration, while maintaining a delicate touch. It offers a beautiful burst of black cherry and violet and smooth, elegant tannins that make it melt away. It lasts a long time until a rich and noble finish, what a nectar.
Food and wine pairing : Château Branaire-Ducru 2010 is a great nectar from the left bank, which will go very well with a starter such as a game terrine with truffles. It will then be appreciated with a dish such as entrecote à la bordelaise or beef en croûte, filet mignon with port or stuffed turkey.
Choose uncooked pressed cheeses such as Edam, Morbier, Tomme de Savoie and Saint-Nectaire. Finally, it will be appreciated with a dessert such as chocolate and orange cake or Pierre Hermé's carrément chocolat.
Ageing potential and tasting: this wine can wait another 10 years in the cellar to reveal its full potential. But it can easily be enjoyed today, by opening it if possible the day before and placing it in the room at room temperature, or by opening it and decanting it 5 hours before tasting.
For further aging, do not hesitate to proceed to successive tastings to measure its evolution and its qualitative peak.
The bottles will be kept in the cellar protected from light, lying down, at an optimal hygrometric degree of 70%.
