Ramos Pinto

The story goes back to 1880, when Adriano Ramos Pinto, a visionary young man, founded the company in Porto, Portugal. From the outset, he decided to focus on producing premium port wine, while adopting innovative approaches to the winemaking and aging process.

Adriano Ramos Pinto was a pioneer in the port industry, introducing modern methods of winemaking and wine blending. He was also one of the first to invest in promoting his wines internationally, helping to put port on the map beyond Portugal's borders.

The family has continued to play an essential role in the development of the house. João Nicolau de Almeida, a talented oenologist, joined the company and brought his expertise in producing port of exceptional quality. His ingenious blends and talent for aging wines have helped forge Ramos Pinto's reputation as a leading port producer.

One of Ramos Pinto's distinguishing features is its commitment to the tradition of tawny-style port. These wines are aged for long periods in oak barrels, giving them a golden color and rich aromas of fruit Secs, spices and nuts. Their "Quinta do Bom Retiro" port is particularly renowned and embodies the excellence of the house.

Ramos Pinto also owns vineyards in the Douro Valley, a region famous for its ideal conditions for growing vines. Ramos Pinto's vineyards are planted on stepped terraces, allowing optimum exposure to the sun and careful cultivation of the grapes.
