Ramos Pinto

The Ramos Pinto house is one of Portugal's most prestigious port houses, renowned for its wines of exceptional quality and its commitment to innovation and tradition.

The story goes back to 1880, when Adriano Ramos Pinto, a visionary young man, founded the company in Porto, Portugal. From the outset, he decided to focus on producing premium port wine, while adopting innovative approaches to the winemaking and aging process.

Adriano Ramos Pinto was a pioneer in the port industry, introducing modern methods of winemaking and wine blending. He was also one of the first to invest in promoting his wines internationally, helping to put port on the map beyond Portugal's borders.

The family has continued to play an essential role in the development of the house. João Nicolau de Almeida, a talented oenologist, joined the company and brought his expertise in producing port of exceptional quality. Description Ramos Pinto 2000.

Considered the elite of Ports, Vintage is an exceptional wine made from the grapes of a single harvest. It is produced only 3-4 times per decade. The main grape varieties used are Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz and Tinta Barroca. Harvested by hand, the grapes are traditionally crushed in lagares (stone vats), the juices fermented and mutated (adding brandy) before the wines are aged for 24 months in oak and chestnut barrels. They are then bottled and rested in the cellar for at least 5 years. The Extraordinaire ageing capacity is up to 100 years

This Vintage 2000 has a dark color with bluish highlights. The nose is complex, an explosion of stewed red fruits, blackberry, black cherry and plum, sprinkled with dark chocolate and pepper. The palate is elegant and structured, fleshy, concentrated and incredibly fresh. The finish is velvety, intense and bewitching. Like all great wines, it will benefit from a two-hour decanting.

This 2000 Vintage Porto from Maison Ramos Pinto is perfect for the end of a meal and, more than anything, with great cheeses such as English Stilton, Italian Gorgonzola and, of course, Portuguese Queijo Serra da Estrela. And for cigar lovers, a Jamaican Puro accompanied by a Blue Montain coffee from the same island.
