Château Mouton Rothschild

The Château Mouton Rothschild is known to all wine lovers, not only for its exceptional wines but also for its labels signed by artists since the 1945 vintage.

The story of Mouton Rothschild began in 1853, when Baron Nathaniel de Rothschild bought Château Brane-Mouton from Pauillac, renaming it Mouton-Rothschild. In 1922, his great-grandson Philippe de Rothschild took over the reins for the next 65 years, and it was he who raised Mouton Rothschild to the pinnacle of its glory thanks to his determination and doggedness. A quest for excellence pursued by his daughter, Baroness Philippine.

By an official decree issued in 1973 by Jacques Chirac, Minister of Agriculture at the time, Château Mouton Rothschild would be declared the fifth Ier Grand Cru Classé, alongside Château Lafite-Rothschild, Château Haut-Brion, Château Latour and Château Margaux.

Today, Baroness Philippine's three children manage Domaine, always remaining faithful to the work of their grandfather and mother. Domaine remains a place of art and beauty, thanks to its spectacular vat room and its famous Musée du Vin dans l'Art, which brings together the unique exhibition "L'Art et l'étiquette" with works by famous contemporary artists (Francis Bacon, Dali, Braque....the... Description Aile d'Argent 2023 - Château Mouton Rothschild's White Wine.

The mild, rainy winter recharged the soils after a year 2022 marked by a lack of rainfall. The vine cycle resumed in good conditions at the beginning of April, despite a frost episode of no consequence. The trend for 2023 to be one of the warmest on record is confirmed as the months go by. The mild weather, combined with near-normal rainfall throughout the spring, accelerated plant growth. In this favorable climatic context, flowering started perfectly at the end of May, 5 days ahead of schedule. June concluded the season with a record, establishing itself as the hottest month since our records began in 1962. The vines continued to develop at a good pace, maintaining their several-day lead over the average. At the height of summer, while France was subjected to successive waves of heatwaves, the Atlantic coast and the Bordeaux vineyards experienced only two episodes of extreme heat at the end of August and the beginning of September, the latter marking the start of the harvest. During the harvest, unstable weather conditions set in, alternating between hot, sunny days and stormy spells. The grapes took advantage of each propitious moment to gain in maturity, while the rainfall helped to refine the skins while slowing down the accumulation of sugars. The last week of September brought summer sunshine and ideal weather to conclude the 2023 harvest.

Tasting notes: Pale yellow with green highlights, the wine is both intense and expressive, revealing citrus and white fruit aromas, before evolving into exotic, mineral and white pepper notes. Fresh and tangy, with hints of lemon and spice, it then becomes more unctuous, revealing flavors of Viennese pastry, feijoa and apricot. Delicate toasted and grilled notes harmoniously accompany the finish.
