Domaine de Chevalier
The Domaine de Chevalier is a great name that inevitably comes to mind when we think of Pessac-Léognan wines. Its origins go back several centuries, and it was once known as "Chibaley", from its Gascon name, according to official records from 1783.
The latter would also mention a nearby path leading to Santiago de Compostela. The notion of Domaine was deliberately retained by the few owners it has successively known, distinguishing it when the mention of "Château" gradually began to appear in the vineyard.
Grand Cru Classé in red and white in the 1953 Graves classification, the property has belonged to the Bernard family, major Bordeaux merchants, since 1983. Olivier Bernard and his son Adrien manage it, always striving for perfection.
Domaine de Chevalier is based on a 45-hectare vineyard planted on gravel with clay-gravel subsoils.
- The red grape varieties (40 ha) are 63% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot and 2% Cabernet franc. The grand vin is aged for 18 months in French oak barrels, 35% of which are new. L'Esprit de Chevalier is the Second vin rouge.
- The white grape varieties (5 ha) are 70% Sauvignon blanc and 30% Sémillon. The grand vin blanc is aged for 18 months in French oak barrels, 35% of which are new. L'Esprit de Chevalier... See more ...

Description Domaine de Chevalier 2023.
We've known hot vintages, sometimes Secs, cold and/or wet vintages; in 2023 we discover the tropical vintage!
The difficulties of the spring weather meant a relentless viticultural battle, necessitated by our commitment to organic viticulture and the heavy pressure of mildew. Despite this, we succeeded in showcasing our terroir with a very fine red Domaine de Chevalier and an exceptional white Domaine de Chevalier.
Spring was early, very mild and with plenty of rain. A heavy emergence and rapid flowering around May 25, followed by very good fruit set, augured well for a good harvest. Daily thunderstorms in the 2nd fortnight of June increased the virulence of the mildew. The promise of a good yield vanished, especially for Merlot.
Seen from another angle, the stormy rainfall at the end of June and July fortunately helped the bunches that had been spared to swell and regain a little volume.
The second half of the vintage was a different story: the very fine, hot weather at the end of August and the Secs winds of the magnificent, sunny month of September, with its wide temperature variations, ripened and concentrated all the grape varieties.
Harvesting of the white grapes began at the end of August for the early parcels. Our strategy of selecting and sorting the grapes ensured precise ripeness and exceptional balance. For the reds, we began harvesting ripe Merlot on September 7. Cabernet Sauvignon finished on September 30.
At harvest reception, vibrating tables, optical sorting and a densimetric bath enabled us to make the right choice... Precision continues to improve, and quality continues to rise..
In the cellar, new vats have been added to an already extensive range, where each red grape variety is highlighted according to its age, origin and the year's viticultural observa on. The results are superb, with white wines of the highest level, powerful, elegant and fresh, and red wines that are rich, ripe and full-bodied, with velvety, flavorful tannins. The quality of the well-preserved acidity enhances and energizes both wines
A complex, spicy nose of great finesse. The expression of this blend, pure and vibrant, characterizes maturity achieved in freshness. Notes of humus and forest envelop the fruit. Immediately full and silky on the palate. Concentrated, elegant structure of great refinement. Tasty, intense radiance, from fruit to mineral. This wine, with its racy allure, is in a class of its own. Very long, with precision, purity and freshness. Impeccable balance. A silky, charming style that will be appreciated in its youth (7-10 years), but will shine with age (12-20 years)
