Winter was rainy and relatively cold. As soon as the vines broke bud in mid-March, growth was brisk, helped by regular rainfall and warm days. This very rapid growth mobilized our teams in the vineyards, where they had to keep a close eye on the health of the vines. The involvement of the winegrowers, combined with the vineyard's privileged location, with its ventilation and short leaf-wetting time, prevented any significant development of mildew during the season, despite the present pressure. Flowering took place under excellent conditions, heralding a generous harvest. This year called for a greater return to green harvesting operations: extensive thinning was carried out, as well as leaf thinning on the sunrise side, over half the vineyard. On the other hand, trimming remained limited to pRéserver keep the soil cool and the grapes in shade. 2023 was a technical year in terms of vineyard management, requiring precision and responsiveness from our teams. The strength of this almost "blessed" terroir is once again illustrated by a generous, healthy, high-quality harvest.
Harvesting of the red grapes began on September 6, still in very hot weather. Ripeness was very good for all grape varieties, and the grapes were highly concentrated, rich in sugar and phenolic compounds. The berries were both fresh and ripe, with great flavor. The generous harvest considerably lengthened the harvest, which continued until early October, under very summery temperatures. The heatwave did not detract from the vintage's fresh, fruity character.
Beautiful, deep, bright red color with purple highlights. The nose is rather discreet at first, then gives a glimpse of ripe fruit: fleshy, sun-drenched blackberries! The attack is tight, powerful and energetic. The wine evolves, creamy with the taste of blackberry jelly. The finish is tannic but aromatic. Aging will make this wine irresistible!
