Château Suduiraut

The Château Suduiraut is one of the finest wines from the Sauternes vineyard. The property dates back to the 17th century and boasts sumptuous gardens designed by André Le Nôtre, allowing it to blend seamlessly into the vineyard.

The Château Suduiraut was named Premier Grand Cru Classé in the classification of Bordeaux wines officialized in 1855 for the Paris Universal Exhibition.

Owned by the AXA millésimes group since 1992, its quality and reputation have grown steadily to become today one of the finest wines of Sauternes. Nothing is left to chance to meet this objective: passion of the teams, tailor-made choice of plots, selective harvesting, rigorous vinification and blending.

The Château Suduiraut watches over a 91-hectare vineyard planted on sandy-clay gravel soils. The grape varieties are 90% Semillon and 10% Sauvignon Blanc. The wines are aged for 18 to 24 months in French oak barrels, 50% of which are new.

In liquoreux, the estate produces a Second wine, Les Lions de Suduiraut, as well as a third wine, Castelnau de Suduiraut.

The estate also produces four Sec white wines in the Bordeaux appellation, which are in order of quality: the grand vin, a Pur Sémillon cuvée, Lions de Suduiraut and S de Suduiraut.

Description Château Suduiraut 2023.

Château Suduiraut, Premier Cru Classified in 1855, is made from a selection of the most prestigious terroirs of Domaine.

This entirely bespoke wine is incredibly complex and beautiful, with a sun-kissed color that turns to amber with age. Remarkably long-lived, it combines harmonious, powerful aromas of flowers, fruit, candied and roasted grapes.

VINTAGE CONDITIONS
- Late autumn and winter of 2022/2023 with abundant rainfall (350 mm, 30% more than the previous year).
- april 4 and 5: a frost episode occurred, but fortunately with limited impact thanks to late budburst.
- A warm spring (dry) contributed to the vine's development, with very good cluster emergence.
- Ideal weather conditions for flowering, with a very generous harvest potential.
- July: precipitation and high temperatures favored an attack of mildew, which was fortunately kept under control.
- August: a cool, overcast start to the month, followed by the return of warm dry weather to perfect the ripening of the grapes.

HARVEST

Harvesting of the sweet wines took place between September 18 and October 17, in 3 selections. As a result of the warm, Sec climate, we started the first sorting, mainly of raisined grapes, on September 18 and finished it on September 27 with 7 batches, for a volume of 148 hl, i.e. 20% of the harvest. Rainfall from September 21 to 23 triggered a fine botrytization.

"However, we had to wait for optimal concentration and began the second sorting on October 2. A radical change in the weather, with wind and heat, led us to accelerate the pace of the harvest. The days and hectoliters passed quickly until October 11, the end date of this Secnd trie, which represented 70% of the harvest by volume, with a very pronounced botrytized character (17 lots for 540 hl). We finished with a third trie on October 17. The overall harvest is 12 hl/ha. The 2023 vintage is generous, with marked acidity, a very classic botrytized character and similarities with the 2021 vintage. Purity and flavors of fresh, candied citrus fruit are the order of the day."

The care we take when receiving wines in our cellars enables us to detect bottles with imperfections (dirty or faded labels, damaged capsules, etc.). In such cases, they are systematically set aside and never put online! Our preparation team selects only bottles with perfect presentation for your orders!

It is these bottles with slight external defects that we present to you in the "Existe en imparfaite" selection. These bottles are, of course, of "irreproachable" gustatory quality, but suffer from slight defects on the label or cap. We therefore offer them at a preferential price, making the pleasure of tasting them even more affordable.
