Château du Glana

Château du Glana

Nestled along the Gironde estuary, between the villages of Beychevelle and Saint-Julien, Château du Glana stands majestically on the prestigious Route des Grands Vins, facing the venerable Château Ducru-Beaucaillou. Built in 1870, its emblematic walls elegantly blend the whiteness of limestone with the warm red of brick, bearing witness to a remarkable architectural heritage.

Designed by Blaye's municipal architect, Monsieur NaDeau, on behalf of Monsieur Cayx at the time, Glana's Château has its roots in the division of Château Saint-Pierre, Fourth Grand Cru Classé in 1855.

In 1961, the eminent Vaucluse nurseryman Gabriel Meffre acquired it. Under his enlightened direction, Domaine expanded from five to forty-three hectares, through the successive purchase of plots formerly associated with Château Lagrange, Third Grand Cru Classé of Saint-Julien. Today, the Meffre family, represented by Jean-Paul and his grandsons Ludovic and Julien, ambitiously manage this estate, determined to exploit all its latent potential.

Nestled among the prestigious crus classés of the Médoc, the estate has enjoyed a remarkable rise in quality since 1999, the fruit of meticulous work and an innovative vision. Year after year, in-depth reflection and meticulous renovation of the vineyard have given birth to modern wines embodying the elegance, authenticity and spirit of the exceptional terroirs that gave rise to them.

Description Château du Glana 2023.

Adaptability and commitment, the keys to a successful 2023 vintage!

A slightly colder winter than last year gave way to a warmer spring, allowing budburst at the end of March. Early heat was followed by atypical cold spells, accompanied by sporadic, often intense rainfall, resulting in heavy mildew pressure.

Flowering took place in summer conditions that were particularly favorable to fruit set. The early veraison that took place from mid to late July gave way to an unpredictable month of August (which began cool and then turned scorching hot). The summer temperatures helped the grapes to ripen very nicely.

"Faced with these difficult weather conditions, our ability to adapt was decisive in producing a good 2023 vintage. It was a generous vintage, benefiting from excellent ripening conditions, demonstrating once again the resilience of the vines in the face of extreme weather conditions. The result is colorful wines with beautiful aromatic intensity, ripe, rich but not excessive, and perfectly balanced!"
