Château Pontet-Canet

Château Pontet-Canet

Perched on the heights of the Pauillac appellation, Château Pontet-Canet is one of the Médoc's most essential crus. Its founder, Jean-François de Pontet, esquire to the king and governor of the Médoc, acquired it in 1725, and a few years later his heirs bought the neighboring land at Canet: thus was born Château Pontet-Canet.

Le Domaine was awarded the title of Cinquième Grand Cru Classé in the 1855 wine classification officialized for the Paris Universal Exhibition. A decade later, it was acquired by Herman Cruse, a Bordeaux merchant of Danish origin, and underwent a complete renovation.

It wasn't until Guy Tesseron, who already owned Château Lafon-Rochet to Saint-Estèphe, bought it in 1975 that Domaine began to shine again. His son Alfred would reveal the Extraordinary potential of his terroir from 1994 onwards, converting Domaine to biodynamic farming in particular, thanks to the support of his steward and trusted man Jean-Michel Comme.

Today, it's his daughter Justine Tesseron who continues his work, making Pontet-Canet shine on the wine scene.

Today, Château Pontet-Canet reigns over an 81-hectare vineyard, entirely managed according to biodynamic principles since the 2004 vintage. This makes Domaine a forerunner and benchmark in the world of Bordeaux Grands Crus Classés. It was certified by the Biodyvin and Ecocert labels in 2010, then by the Demeter label in... See more ...

Description Château Pontet-Canet 2014.

Despite a very wet spring, but after a sunny summer very favorable to the grape harvest, this fifth Grand Cru Classé of Pauillac has proved to be a great vintage and will continue to improve with time.
The robe is deep purple.
The first attacks on the nose as well as on the palate offer a wine chiseled like a goldsmith's jewel. The very varied aromas are generous. The mouth is round with a remarkable velvet on greedy touches of black fruits like burlat cherry, blackcurrant with a hint of liquorice. The finish is long and pleasurable and ends on hints of mocha and vanilla wood. A wine of great precision.
ATaste at room temperature and decant a few hours beforehand to give it time to express itself
Successive tastings will allow us to grasp its qualitative peak, but it is already a wine to be drunk with red meats such as tournedos rossini or with game withcepsfrom Bordeaux or Dordogne or chanterelles flavored with black truffles from Périgord or white truffles from Piedmont in Italy. It will also go very well with black fruit pies, or even pear pies.chocolateand almondsfresh.
A wine to be aged in a cellar protected from the light, bottles laid down with a hygrometric degree around 70%. Apogee estimated around 2035.
