Château Calon-Ségur

The Château Calon-Ségur is a benchmark in the Saint-Estèphe appellation, whose wines are born of the highest standards. It was in 1670 that the granddaughter of the owner of Château de Calon married Marquis Jacques de Ségur, owner of Châteaux de Lafite and Latour in Pauillac, who gave it its definitive name by adding his own

Then it was his grandson, the Marquis Nicolas-Alexandre de Ségur, who took over the reins with passion and ambition. He never concealed his love for the vineyard or for Calon-Ségur, and once declared: "I make wine at Lafite and Latour, but my heart is in Calon". This is why a heart has adorned the label of Château ever since.

At the famous 1855 classification at the Paris Universal Exhibition, Château Calon-Ségur was awarded the title of Troisième Grand Cru Classé.

Located on gravel and clay hilltops that bring power and finesse to the wines, the vineyard covers 55 hectares: 56% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot. Precision viticulture is applied with the utmost respect for the environment. The wines are aged for 18 to 20 months in 100% new barrels.

A Second and a third wine are produced by the estate, respectively the Marquis de Calon and the Saint-Estèphe de Calon-Ségur.

The wines of Château Calon Ségur are of pure harmony, offering a deep and generous character.

Description Château Calon-Ségur 2016.

The wine presents itself to us in an elegant deep, intense red color with brilliant highlights.

The nose opens with a very smoky, toasty, vanilla dimension. After aeration, elegant notes of blueberry, cherry and plum emerge.

On the palate, it is full-bodied and rich. The texture is velvety and the tannins are perfectly integrated, giving the whole a very supple structure.

Luscious fruit aromas and a peppery touch bring a sensation of freshness that lasts right through to the finish, which hints at a fine ageing potential.
