Château Latour
What discerning wine connoisseur doesn't know Château Latour, a very simple name that has nevertheless never deserved the great prestige it has acquired. Its history began in 1718, when the Marquis Nicolas-Alexandre de Ségur planted the first vines on the site.
Then in 1787, Thomas Jefferson, US ambassador to France at the time, mentioned him in his travel notes, marking the beginning of his fame.
In 1855, its consecration was reached when it acceded to the prestigious title of Ier Grand Cru Classé in the Médoc Grands Crus classification, a distinction it shares with Château Lafite Rothschild, Château Haut-Brion as well as Château Margaux, and then with Château Mouton Rothschild since 1973.
Owned by French businessman François Pinault since 1993, Château Latour reigns over an 80-hectare vineyard, 48 of which are grouped within an enclosure with vines over 40 years old that are the heart of Domaine. They are planted on gravelly hilltops overlooking the Gironde estuary, an ideal, high-quality terroir, and give birth to a great wine. The grape varieties are 76% Cabernet Sauvignon, 22% Merlot and 2% Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.
The Domaine produces two other cuvées: a Second vin, Les Forts de Latour, and a third wine, the Pauillac de Latour.
The wines of Château Latour have an exceptional ability to stand the test of time, waiting several decades before being enjoyed. They harmoniously combine tannic structure, persistence, breed and elegance.

Description Les Forts de Latour 2018.
The year 2018 marked the certification of Domaine as organic. This vintage shaped by extremes began with an all-time record 330 mm of cumulative rainfall between December and January. The cool, rainy month of March led to a late budburst, noted on April 10 for the Cabernet Sauvignon. Spared from hail in May, the estate was nevertheless affected by the rains of the 12th and 25th. Mid-flowering, which was rapid and uniform, was noted on June 1 for the Cabernet Sauvignon. July and August were particularly hot and Sec mid-veraison was recorded on August 7. A series of thunderstorms at the end of the month relieved the vineyards of heat and water stress. In September, the virtual absence of rainfall caused some of the berries to wither, allowing the remaining, more resistant ones to benefit from unprecedented aromatic complexity. As a result, the 2018 vintage generates wines with low yields but exceptional quality and concentration.
Harvest began on September 17 for the first Merlot plots and ended on October 11 for the Cabernet Sauvignon.
Heavy aromas of black fruits, violet petals and pencil lead sprinkled with sweet spices and licorice. This is a generous, powerfully structured wine with present but fine tannins, concentrated flavors and acidity carrying the mouth to a full, elegant finish.
