Drappier Grande Sendrée 2008 Magnum

The history of the Drappier family goes back more than two centuries, when François Drappier, a passionate winemaker, decided to create his own house of Champagne. He acquired vineyards in the Côte des Bar, a southern region of the Champagne, less well known than the Montagne de Reims or the Vallée de la Marne, but which plays an essential role in the diversity of the Champagne terroir. 

Over the generations, the Drappier family has perpetuated its winemaking know-how and heritage, focusing on pRéserver traditional values while adopting innovative practices. Today, the house is still run by the same family, who make it a point of honor to respect tradition while pushing the boundaries of excellence. 

The terroir of the Côte des Bar is a major asset to the quality of the house's Champagnes. The vineyards cover around 70 hectares, spread over various villages, including Urville, where the Champagne house is located. The Côte des Bar terroir is distinguished by its clay-limestone soils, which give the grapes exceptional ripeness and characteristic freshness. 

The vines are carefully cultivated, favoring environmentally-friendly methods such as organic viticulture. Harvesting is carried out by hand, enabling meticulous selection of bunches, guaranteeing optimal grape quality. This also ensures that only the ripest, healthiest grapes are used to make Drappier Champagnes. 

The winemaking process combines tradition and modernity. Grapes are delicately pressed, and juices are vinified separately to pRéserver purity of aromas. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel vats, and some of the wines undergo malolactic fermentation to add roundness and complexity to the cuvées. 

Maturing takes place mainly in oak barrels, giving the Champagnes their unique character and aromatic richness. Aging on the lees for an extended period also adds depth and finesse to the cuvées. 

The Drappier Champagnes are distinguished by their elegance, freshness and aromatic intensity. They offer a complex aromatic palette, ranging from fresh fruit to toasty notes, as well as floral and spicy nuances. On the palate, Champagnes are well-balanced, with a delicate effervescence and a lingering finish that testifies to their high quality. 

The house offers a varied range of cuvées, from non Champagnes Millésimés to prestige cuvées, including Champagnes Rosés and Blanc de blancs. Each cuvée expresses the unique character of its terroir of origin, reflecting the diversity of the Champagne terroir.
