Louis Roederer

The House Louis Roederer is one of the names that comes up when we talk about the great houses of Champagne, being still one of the Rares to remain family owned for more than two centuries now.

Reigning over a vineyard of 240 hectares classified on sumptuous terroirs in Premiers Crus and Grands Crus, the House Louis Roederer has never ceased to offer generous Champagnes that embellish all occasions.

The House of Roederer: a family heritage

It was in 1833 that Louis Roederer inherited his uncle's house: the house of Champagne Dubois Père et Fils in Reims, which he had founded in 1776. From then on, he chose to take the habits and customs of the region in hand and showed great concern for controlling all the stages of production of his Champagne. At the time, marketing was the business of the wine merchants, while the vineyard belonged entirely to the winegrowers. Thus, in 1845, Louis Roederer bought about fifteen hectares of vineyards classified as Grand Cru and acquired the status of winemaker-negociant in order to reconcile the two trades.

In 1876, Louis Roederer II, who succeeded his father following his death in 1870, created at the request of Tsar Alexander II a special vintage for the exclusive consumption of the Tsars of... See more ...

Description Louis Roederer Cristal 2015.

Each vintage, only the best Pinots and Chardonnays from the 45 plots over 20 years old are selected, firmly rooted in the chalk matrix. This is where the purest, chalkiest wines are born, in the quest for harmony symbolized by the cuvée.

2015 was marked by warm, sunny days punctuated by episodes of heat and drought. The end of summer was relieved by saving rains, allowing the grapes to pRéserver all their freshness. This climatic particularity forged juicy, ripe and concentrated grapes, totally balanced.

In the cellar, precision is the reflection of this quest for excellence; 25% are vinified sous-bois, without any malolactic fermentation to pRéserver the purity of the fruit, its brilliance and freshness. Then time does its work: an average of six to seven years' ageing on laths, plus six to twelve months after disgorgement, make up a Cristal vintage.

The 2015 vintage brought magnificent ripeness to the grapes. From the very first nose, intense, delicious aromas ensure superb energy, with a magical vibrancy.

This is a Champagne of eternity with a chalky temperament, carried by its soils, freed from the solar character of the vintage.

Yellow fruit, toasted almond revealed by the Chardonnay are combined with the juicy red fruit of the Pinot noir. Then comes the great energy of the frame, its vibratory intensity that turns into a soft caress, a silky texture where fine flavors of candied citrus and iodized spices point.

The finish reveals lightly woody, sappy and saline notes.

Cristal 2015 has immense aging potential. A very high quality Champagne to be enjoyed with scallops on a bed of leeks or gravlax salmon.
