Château Haut-Brion

The Château Haut-Brion enjoys a reputation that goes back centuries, a model of longevity and excellence resulting from an exceptional terroir. The first traces of Domaine date back to 1525, when Jean de Pontac, a notable member of parliament in Bordeaux, received it by marriage and began building Château in 1549, at the same time increasing the size of the vineyard.

Served at the tables of the kings of England, as attested by a 1660 archive, Château was the first to appear under its cru name, "Ho Bryan", as Samuel Pepys, a member of the English Parliament, put it in his diary in 1663.

In the famous 1855 classification, Château Haut-Brion was the only Domaine from the Graves region to appear, as the 1st Grand Cru Classé, sharing this distinction with four Domaines: Château Lafite Rothschild, Château Margaux, Château Latour as well as Château Mouton Rothschild since 1973.

Bought in 1935 by American banker Clarence Dillon and run today by his descendant, Prince Robert du Luxembourg, Château Haut-Brion is based on a 51-hectare gravel vineyard: 48ha in red dedicated to the production of the grand vin and Second vin, Clarence de Haut-Brion (44% Cabernet Sauvignon, 42% Merlot, 12% Cabernet franc and 2% Petit Verdot), and 3ha in white dedicated to the production of the grand vin blanc Sec (52% Sémillon and 47% Sauvignon blanc).

The grand vin rouge of Château Haut-Brion is a wine of extraordinary intensity, complexity and velvety power. As for the white wine it produces, it is reputed to be Sec de Bordeaux's greatest white wine, mineral and unctuous.

Description Château Haut-Brion 2010.

The year 2010 is dry with a dry summer.

This lack of water causes a phenomenon of dehydration by concentrating the constituent elements of the grape berry and to obtain quantitative values never reached, in particular on the richness in sugar.

It is a blend of Merlot Noir: 23%, Cabernet Sauvignon: 57% and Cabernet Franc: 20%.

The robe is close to a superb ruby red, with a purplish sheen.

The nose reveals itself with agitation. The aromas follow one another in a superb fade, starting with a woody side, then come the red fruits and then the terroir by flavors of cocoa powder, roasting and Havana.

In the mouth, the sweetness of the beginning gives way to the appearance of the tannic structure. Despite a palpable density, the tannins are of a great endless finish.

It is a wine for ageing, and we take care to leave the bottles lying down in the cellar, away from light and noise, with a hygrometric degree of around 70%.

It is a wine that is close to its peak today but whose asymptote may continue to evolve until the 2040s. Successive tastings should be done in order to measure the evolution of the wine.

The care we take when receiving wines in our cellars enables us to detect bottles with imperfections (dirty or faded labels, damaged capsules, etc.). In such cases, they are systematically set aside and never put online! Our preparation team selects only bottles with perfect presentation for your orders!

It is these bottles with slight external defects that we present to you in the "Existe en imparfaite" selection. These bottles are, of course, of "irreproachable" gustatory quality, but suffer from slight defects on the label or cap. We therefore offer them at a preferential price, making the pleasure of tasting them even more affordable.
