The House Louis Roederer is one of the names that comes up when we talk about the great houses of Champagne, being still one of the Rares to remain family owned for more than two centuries now.
Reigning over a vineyard of 240 hectares classified on sumptuous terroirs in Premiers Crus and Grands Crus, the House Louis Roederer has never ceased to offer generous Champagnes that embellish all occasions.
It was in 1833 that Louis Roederer inherited his uncle's house: the house of Champagne Dubois Père et Fils in Reims, which he had founded in 1776. From then on, he chose to take the habits and customs of the region in hand and showed great concern for controlling all the stages of production of his Champagne. On the nose, notes of crisp orchard fruit, white flowers, red berries, freshly baked bread and mandarin oil. Well-balanced acidity. Although this Cristal is taut, it is also fleshy and generous. A sapid finish.
To elaborate its Champagnes Rosés, Louis Roederer has developed over the years a quite unique way in Champagne. Known in the House as "infusion", it extracts the juiciness and ripeness of the Pinot Noir grapes while preserving their great freshness. Thus, some Chardonnay juice is poured into a Pinot Noir maceration, to ferment together and integrate perfectly.
Cristal Rosé 1985 has been aged for 8 years in bottle, and also benefits from a minimum 8-month rest period after disgorgement to perfect its maturity. The dosage is 8 g/l. Its color is a brilliant pink with salmon highlights, and its effervescence gives it a creamy appearance. On the nose, notes of crunchy orchard fruit, white flowers, tangerine, peony and fresh bread. On the palate we find the tart red berries, redcurrant, raspberry and wild strawberry, typical of Aÿ old Pinot Noir, but also fruit Secs, stone fruit liqueur, balanced by the saline, chalky freshness of the finish.
Although this Cristal Rosé 1985 is taut, it is also fleshy and generous, enhanced by a sapid finish. It will be perfect as an aperitif to accompany goose and duck foie gras canapés, or as a dessert with a strawberry platter, or even a simple tart with strawberries picked on the day.
It's the perfect wine to enjoy with a meal
