Château Troplong Mondot

As one of the spearheads of the Saint-Emilion appellation, Château Troplong-Mondot is a role model, with the quality of its wines born above all from passion. Established on the highest point of the appellation, it was originally called Château Mondot and belonged to Romain Desèze, defender of King Louis XVI.

It was then owned by Raymond Troplong, a lawyer and politician, who acquired it in 1850 and gave it its definitive name.

The Troplong-Mondot success story is unquestionably linked to the Valette family, merchants at Bordeaux, who bought it in the 1920s. From the 1980s onwards, Christine Valette-Pariente and her husband Xavier Paliente guided Domaine towards excellence, placing it in the pantheon of great wines.

Domaine has now belonged to the SCOR group since 2017, with Aymeric de Gironde taking the reins as managing director, keen to place Troplong-Mondot among the greatest wines on the international wine scene.

It was during the 2006 revision of the Saint-Emilion classification that Château Troplong-Mondot was crowned Premier Grand Cru Classé, a position it has held ever since.

The Château Troplong-Mondot reigns over a 33-hectare vineyard that benefits from ideal geological conditions, thanks to clays and flints in the soil composition, as well as limestone and silty clays. The grape varieties are 85%... See more ...

Description Château Troplong Mondot 2017.

A vintage in 7 which is a great success for this illustrious property of the top of the hillock of Saint-Emilion. Following a beginning of the year marked by climatic constraints, the rest of the viticultural season presented very favorable conditions for the development of the vine. The tireless work of the teams coupled with the technical renovation program of Chateau Troplong-Mondot has resulted in a very beautiful wine.

Blend of the 2017 vintage: Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon.

The robe is a beautiful deep red color, adorned with a tile-like sheen.

The nose is particularly distinguished, offering a greedy bouquet of black fruits, cherry, peppery spices and eucalyptus. Then come notes of plum and vanilla wood.

The palate follows the same register of finesse, with a supple attack and a concentrated texture that offers succulent notes of red fruits. The tannins are very fine, giving a nice balance to the wine which shows a lot of freshness. It blooms on a long, persistent and complex finish.

Food and wine pairing:

Château Troplong-Mondot 2017 will sublimate many meat dishes such as a duck breast with Périgord ceps, Angus beef with truffle sauce, Bresse chicken with cream and morels or a lamb mouse confit with garlic.

For a match with cheese, choose pressed and uncooked cheeses: cantal, old mimolette, morbier, saint-nectaire and tomme de Savoie. It can also be enjoyed with Brie de Meaux, Gouda or Salers.

It will be particularly delicious with chocolate desserts, such as entremet, Guillaume Mabilleau's Extra-noisette tart or a famous mi-cuit.

Cellaring potential and tasting:

Château Troplong-Mondot 2017 has great ageing potential, and will reach its peak between 2032 and 2035.

However, it lends itself wonderfully to tasting now. To do so, take care to place the bottle the night before in the serving room at room temperature. Open it and decant it at least 3 to 4 hours before tasting.

The bottles will be kept in the cellar protected from the light, lying down, at an optimal hygrometric degree of 70%.

The care we take when receiving wines in our cellars enables us to detect bottles with imperfections (dirty or faded labels, damaged capsules, etc.). In such cases, they are systematically set aside and never put online! Our preparation team selects only bottles with perfect presentation for your orders!

It is these bottles with slight external defects that we present to you in the "Existe en imparfaite" selection. These bottles are, of course, of "irreproachable" gustatory quality, but suffer from slight defects on the label or cap. We therefore offer them at a preferential price, making the pleasure of tasting them even more affordable.
