Josmeyer

House Josmeyer has been harvesting and vinifying Alsace wines since 1854. This very old House is located in Wintzenheim, an Alsatian town near Colmar.

The vineyard, which has been awarded the AB (organic farming) label, covers an area of around 28 hectares and is made up of 28% Riesling, 24% Pinot Blanc and Auxerrois, 21% Pinot Gris, 19%Gewurztraminer and 10% Sylvaner, Muscat and Pinot Noir grape varieties.

Production is around 200,000 bottles, depending on the year.

The vineyard produces wines on Hengst,  a hillside at 360 meters altitude on a mainly limestone soil and  Brand, a granitic terroir at 343 meters located on the Turckheim bench,  both classified Grands Crus.

Description Josmeyer Gewurztraminer Hengst Grand Cru 2018.

Gewurztraminer grapes are harvested by hand from the terroir Hengst, classified Grand Cru, and fermented in century-old casks and vats for one to four months.

A very low yield of 40 years old vines: 4000 liters per hectare. Degree of the wine: 14,5%.

In mouth: very mineral.

Nose: spicy touches such as white and gray peppers.

Pairing: a great wine with Asian, Creole or Mexican dishes spiced with curry, pepper, cumin. Fits also perfectly with cheeses such as Munster, Pont-l'évêque, Bleu de Bresse, Maroilles.
