Joseph Perrier

The House Joseph Perrier created in 1825 is, as in the past, still located in Chalons en Champagne. It is now run by a fifth generation.

This means that the estate has been cultivating its vines for almost 195 years. It currently owns 21 hectares, vinifies its wines and vintages the best years.

The wines are aged in cellars dug straight into the chalk, with some of the galleries dating back to Gallo-Roman times, when the Aquitanian poet Ausonius celebrated the vine and Emperor Probus granted Gaul the right to plant vines. These cellars, which extend for some 3 kilometers and overhang the house, are pierced by essors-sort of skylights equipped at their feet with an inclined reflector that reflects light back into the galleries.

Description Joseph Perrier Josephine x Jordane Saget 2014.

The JosépHine cuvée from Maison Joseph Perrier was created by Joseph himself as a gift for his daughter JosépHine's wedding, and is only produced in exceptional years. To mark the 175th anniversary of this union, the House teamed up with "street artist" Jordane Saget to imagine its packaging.

2014 is a vintage of contrasts. It began with a mild, wet winter, followed by a very Sec spring. The summer is rainy and cold, and only the warmth of September allows a harvest of very good quality.

This Champagne blends 60% Chardonnay and 40% Pinot Noir, from the Grands and Premiers Crus of Ambonnay, Sacy, Cumières, Bergères lès Vertus, Le Mesnil sur Oger. The grapes are pressed and vinified separately, then blended and aged for 6 years in our cellars. Dosed at 5g/L, it's a Extra brut.

The nose, subtle and of great finesse, exhales aromas of fruit Secs, toasted hazelnut and a lovely floral hint of lily. The palate offers a tender attack of white fruit and ripe pear, followed by notes of lily of the valley, spices and white pepper. This savory persistence lengthens with freshness on the finish.

The 2014 Cuvée Joséphien from Joseph Perrier is ideally paired with a pluma of Iberian pork with crisp vegetables or just-snacked langoustines.
