Fanny Fougerat, 4th generation of a family of winemaker-distillers.

Installed in Burie on 30Ha of vines in the Borderies (smallest cru of Cognac) and in the Fins Bois, and supplier of eaux de vie destined for the blends of the major trading houses, Fanny Fougerat took over the family business in the early 2010s with the firm intention of selling her Cognacs under her own brand. From vine to wine, from wine to eau de vie and from eau de vie to Cognac, Fanny Fougerat strives for freshness, precision and authenticity. Her first cuvée was bottled in 2013. It marks the style of this passionate young entrepreneur: fresh, uncluttered yet lively Cognacs of exceptional quality.

L'Iris Poivré is Fanny Fougerat's first release on the market. It's a Cognac from Borderies, a cru with flinty clay and limestone soils, renowned for its powerful, velvety eaux de vie. More precisely, the grapes come from the "Chez Garraud" plot, planted with 100% Ugni-Blanc. 

During vinification, fermentation takes place over 4 to 6 days at controlled temperature (<24°C). The wine, with a PH of 3, is floral and mineral. It is double-distilled in a 25Hl copper still, charged without the wine lees. 15% of the volume is aged in new, lightly toasted, fine-grained French oak barrels. These Cognacs are authentic, with no artificial additives or colorants, no filtration and no chilling. This Iris Poivré cuvée is a Cognac whose youngest eau de vie in the blend has aged at least 10 years in oak barrels; it's a XO or Extra Old made from 15 barrels that will yield 7500 bottles.

This Cognac sports a soft, golden hue, with light amber highlights. Very lightly oaked, the nose is fresh, delicate and precise, with its floral notes of tea, honeysuckle and vine flower just enhanced by lovely acidic, lemony hints. Then come pastry aromas, candied fruit and orange blossom, white-fleshed fruit and dried flowers... sprinkled with a delicious honey syrup. The palate is silky, gourmand and subtle at the same time. A beautiful balance between finesse and structure, combining white flowers, candied bitter orange, fresh walnut and continues with a spicy, mentholated hint.

This Iris Poivré is an excellent example of what a great Cognac des Borderies should be; it's also the revelation of the Fanny Fougerat style.
