A.E. Dor

A house of Cognac created in 1858 by Jean Baptiste DOR, continued by his Son Amédée  Edouard DOR who researched, selected and collected the best Cognacs and eaux de vie. In those days, professionals called him "the antique dealer of Cognac".

After aging in oak barrels for decades (70 years and more), some of these venerable Eaux de vie from Grande Champagne, the Premier Cru de Cognac, were carefully collected at the fullness of their aroma in wax-sealed Dames-jeannes, to keep them intact.

Today, these glass carboys sleep in a cellar Secret called  "Paradis", unchanged since its creation, proudly displaying their prestigious vintages. The jewels of the AE DOR House, their origins generally predate the famous phylloxera epidemic of 1874. They have preserved their precious contents intact for over a century, justifying the worldwide renown of Maison AE DOR.

Description A.E. Dor Réserve Spéciale 1988.

A.E.Dor Cognacs are sought after by connoisseurs and collectors the world over. They are renowned for their delicacy due to the maturation process they undergo.  They are aged in French Limousin oak casks, with a capacity of up to 500 liters, housed in a cellar known for its particular humidity level; experts consider this to be the Secret of Maison A.E.Dor's Cognacs.

This Réserve Spéciale is distilled from the 1988 harvest only, and composed of Cognac from the Petite Champagne exclusively, a cru with chalky soils just covered by a thin layer of clay that yields bouquety eaux de vie of great finesse.

This Cognac sports a beautiful Caribbean caramel-mahogany color. The nose is immediately virile and fiery, but quickly moves on to delicate floral notes of spring white flowers and hawthorn, lifted just right by cinnamon, nutmeg and black pepper, to finish on vanilla and cocoa. On the palate, the wine is smooth and delicate. There's the roundness of Ente plum, Lorraine mirabelle plum and apricot, as well as the flavor of candied fruit, finishing with coffee, mocha and white pepper. The finish is long, persistent, even infinite ... the mark of the very great Cognac.

This Cognac Réserve Spéciale 1988 from Maison A.E.Dor is to be savored on a chocolate fondant or a black cherry tart from Itxassou.
