Château Duhart-Milon

Château Duhart-Milon

Located in the heart of the Pauillac vineyard, Château Duhart-Milon owes its creation to a privateer under Louis XV who retired to the town's port and was named Sieur Duhart. From the 18th century onwards, Milon's wines served as an annuity for the seigneur de Lafite and was at the time considered a Second vin.

The Château Duhart-Milon would be named Quatrième Grand Cru Classé in the famous 1855 classification for the Paris Universal Exhibition.

In 1962, it was acquired by the Domaines Baron de Rothschild who were at the helm of its illustrious neighbor, Château Lafite Rothschild.

The Château Duhart-Milon watches over a 75-hectare vineyard situated on fine gravel soils with a limestone subsoil. The grape varieties are 67% Cabernet Sauvignon and 33% Merlot. The wines are aged for 14 months in French oak barrels, 50% of which are new.

The estate produces a Second wine, Moulin de Duhart.

The wines of Château Duhart-Milon are finely structured, offering plenty of concentration and freshness while letting beautiful fruity and spicy notes express themselves.

Description Château Duhart-Milon 2012.

The 2012 vintage was characterized by a rather cool spring followed by a summer marked by high heat and great drought. From August onwards, a certain climatic stability allowed the grapes to follow an adequate maturation process. The harvest was carried out in a serene way, with a very selective sorting of the berries in order to keep only the most qualitative ones.

Blend of the 2012 vintage: 62% Cabernet Sauvignon, 38% Merlot.

In the glass, it reveals a very dark color, decorated with brilliant tiled reflections.

The nose combines power and elegance, with aromas of black fruits, blackberry and blackcurrant, as well as a touch of fireplace, pepper and melted wood.

The attack is rich and round, offering a balanced wine carried by finely chiseled tannins. Rising crescendo in aromatic power with flavors of ripe fruit and roasted cocoa, it shows freshness and complexity. The finish is precise, long and spicy.

Food and wine pairing:

Chateau Duhart-Milon 2012 will pair well with a matured prime rib cooked over Medoc vine shoots, a herb-crusted rack of lamb, a back of rabbit with Dijon mustard, or a roasted quail with mushrooms.

For a pairing with cheese, choose uncooked pressed cheeses: Edam, Gouda, Saint-nectaire, morbier, Tomme de Savoie or Salers.

For dessert, enjoy it with a Grand Cru chocolate tartlet, a Dôme praliné or a tiramisu.

Ageing potential and tasting:

Château Duhart-Milon 2012 is a great wine for aging in Pauillac, and will reach its potential between 2027 and 2030.

But it can be enjoyed today if properly prepared. To do so, take care to open and decant the bottle ideally 4 to 5 hours before tasting, and to serve it between 15 and 18°C.

The bottles should be kept in a dark cellar, lying down, with an optimal hygrometric degree of 70%.

The care we take when receiving wines in our cellars enables us to detect bottles with imperfections (dirty or faded labels, damaged capsules, etc.). In such cases, they are systematically set aside and never put online! Our preparation team selects only bottles with perfect presentation for your orders!

It is these bottles with slight external defects that we present to you in the "Existe en imparfaite" selection. These bottles are, of course, of "irreproachable" gustatory quality, but suffer from slight defects on the label or cap. We therefore offer them at a preferential price, making the pleasure of tasting them even more affordable.
