The Château Mouton Rothschild is known to all wine lovers, not only for its exceptional wines but also for its labels signed by artists since the 1945 vintage.
The story of Mouton Rothschild began in 1853, when Baron Nathaniel de Rothschild bought Château Brane-Mouton from Pauillac, renaming it Mouton-Rothschild. In 1922, his great-grandson Philippe de Rothschild took over the reins for the next 65 years, and it was he who raised Mouton Rothschild to the pinnacle of its glory thanks to his determination and doggedness. A quest for excellence pursued by his daughter, Baroness Philippine.
By an official decree issued in 1973 by Jacques Chirac, Minister of Agriculture at the time, Château Mouton Rothschild would be declared the fifth Ier Grand Cru Classé, alongside Château Lafite-Rothschild, Château Haut-Brion, Château Latour and Château Margaux.

CLIMATE
The climatic profile for 1996 was marked by above-average temperatures and a few rainy periods, favoring even vine development. The high humidity of the first two months was followed by warm, Sec weather in March and April. The vegetative cycle began rapidly, with budburst on April 14. May was characterized by alternating cool and hot spells.
Warm Sec weather finally set in at the end of May and continued throughout the summer. The vine's vegetative cycle accelerated, and the delay at the start of flowering was made up. Flowering was uniform from May 29 to June 12, while veraison, 10 days ahead of average, lasted from July 17 to August 20. In August, the harvest potential was promising for a great vintage.
The installation of Sec weather accompanied by a northerly wind triumphed over the occasional rainfall at the beginning of September. As a result, the grapes arrived at the winery perfectly healthy and rich in quality.
TASTING NOTES
Attractive red color with a slightly orange disk.
The nose is open and intense, leaning towards black fruit, such as morello cherry and blackberry, as well as cedar, fresh mint and floral notes. The oak is perfectly integrated.
The full-bodied palate is immediately fat and dense. The aromatic depth on the palate is remarkable. The palate is rigorous, with a fine, silky grain of tannin. Controlled power before the softer finish.
