Le Château Fombrauge is a fine reference from the Saint-Emilion vineyards. The origins of Domaine date back to the 16th century, when the first harvests were carried out here. It passed through several hands over the following centuries, from religious orders to large families, before being acquired in 1999 by Bordeaux businessman Bernard Magrez, nicknamed "the man with 40 vineyards".
The latter will help to elevate it to the rank of the great wines of Rive droite, combining ancestral know-how and precision viticulture.
The Château Fombrauge will be named Grand Cru Classé at the 6th edition of the Saint-Emilion classification in 2012, a status that will confirm its qualitative excellence.
The Château Fombrauge is based on a 60-hectare vineyard planted on clay-limestone soils. The grape varieties are 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet franc. The wines are aged for 16 months in French oak barrels, 40% of which are new.
The Château Fombrauge illustrates one of the finest expressions of Saint-Emilion, thanks to fruity, silky, elegant wines of great freshness.
The 2019 vintage in Bordeaux has seen several weather phases, including a summer marked by two heat waves and a lot of drought. The month of August fortunately presented milder temperatures and thus avoided blockages in ripening. Thanks to an ideal month of September, which allowed us to maintain a perfect sanitary state, the Merlots and Cabernets Francs of the estate have reached a very good oenological maturity.
Blend of the 2019 vintage: 90% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc
The robe is a very pronounced purple color, tinged with elegant purple reflections.
The nose opens with beautiful notes of black cherry, raspberry and blackberry, and then offers pleasant scents of roasting and chocolate.
Introduced in mouth, it reveals roundness, intensity and freshness. Supported by a melted tannic frame and releasing greedy aromas of blackberry and blackcurrant, it ends on a long persistent finish.
Food and wine pairing:
Chateau Fombrauge 2019 will go well with entrecote steak with Bordeaux sauce, veal escalope à la viennoise, duck breast with pepper sauce or chicken with morels.
Choose uncooked pressed cheeses: Edam, Gouda, Saint-nectaire or Salers.
For dessert, it will be particularly exquisite with a black forest, a chocolate ganache or a tiramisu.
Cellaring potential and tasting:
Château Fombrauge 2019 deserves another 5 years of patience before being tasted, so that it can fully reveal all its potential. But it can be wonderful right now, if you open and decant the bottle at least 2 hours before tasting.
Do not hesitate to proceed to successive tastings to measure the evolution of the wine and its qualitative peak.
The bottles will be kept in the cellar protected from light, lying down, at an optimal hygrometric degree of 70 %.
