Jacques Selosse

The Domaine Jacques Selosse was founded in 1949 in the village Grand Cru of Avize. His son, Anselme, has taken over Domaine since 1974 to make it the small rising star of Champagne.

Only 50,000 bottles are produced each year at Domaine Jacques Selosse, made up of 7.5 hectares spread over Extraordinary terroirs that Anselme Selosse has succeeded in sublimating plot by plot.

The Chardonnay parcels are located on Côte des blancs : Avize, Cramant, Oger and Le Mesnil-sur-Oger while the Pinot Noir parcels come from Montagne de Reims : Aÿ, Ambonnay and Mareuil-sur-Aÿ.

The quality of Selosse's Champagnes is recognized by all the major critics, and the bottles are highly prized all over the world given the low production.

The Champagnes Jacques Selosse are famous for their vinosity, purity and perfectly controlled oxidative notes, as well as utterly irresistible gingerbread and apple aromas.

Description Jacques Selosse 2008.

Millésime by Maison Jacques Selosse: magnify the terroir of origin with a harvest year of singular qualities. It has to be said that this confidential Domaine offers us great wines, the fruit of a biodynamic-inspired culture, like this grand cru Millésimé 2008.

What a great vintage!!! A year marked by cold weather in Champagne, where it was not until late April that no more negative temperatures were recorded. May, June and August were cool and rainy, leaving doubts about the quality and quantity of the future harvest. The 2 sunny, warm and dry weeks of mid-July and early September (just before the harvest) ensure full ripeness and impeccable harvest quality. Once again, the great winemakers have risen to nature's challenge to make 2008 a very great vintage.

This Champagne Grand Cru Blanc de blancs was made from 2 parcels of Avize chardonnay, Le Mont de Cramant and Les Chantereines, the same ones used since 1975 to make cuvées Millésimées. The wines are vinified and aged in Burgundy barrels for 9 years, and will produce just 3500 bottles of an exceptional Extra brut.

The wine is rich and ripe, on pear and cider, with a subtle bouquet of iris and gentian sprinkled with fruit Secs, walnut, almond and hazelnut, and chiseled by a light oxidative note. The palate is juicy and appetizing, with frangipane, pistachio and rowan. The finish is salivating, on chalk, smoke and salt, accompanied by an unexpected hint of mushroom.

The racy, bewitching character of this 2008 will reveal itself wonderfully with poularde de Bresse with morels or truffle risotto.
