The Château Pichon-Longueville Comtesse de Lalande embodies the elegance and refinement of Pauillac wines. It is a property classified Second Grand Cru in the official classification of Bordeaux wines of 1855. For over three centuries, this illustrious wine estate has been shaped by generations of enthusiasts, with meticulous attention paid to the quality of the terroir and the family's exceptional expertise.
The history of Château Pichon-Longueville Comtesse de Lalande dates back to the 17th century. In 1689, Pierre de Mazure de Rauzan, an influential wine merchant, acquired the vineyards and erected the Domaine that bears his name today. Over the years, Domaine changed ownership several times, but it wasn't until the early 20th century that Château enjoyed a period of stability thanks to the Miailhe family. In 1925, May-Eliane de Lencquesaing, an emblematic figure in the Miailhe family, inherited the estate and devoted much of her life to its management, contributing to its worldwide renown.

2023 back to the future
2023 saw a remarkably high level of annual rainfall, while the growing season was one of the driest in 20 years, with a few heatwaves thrown in for good measure... A year of contrasts that confirms the need to look ahead to the agronomic, scientific and practical challenges of tomorrow. We need to be as close as possible to nature, to the vine, to help it navigate through a barrage of varied, lightning-fast climatic episodes that challenge our habits and certainties. Thanks to our efforts and our determination to practise organic and biodynamic agriculture with ever greater precision and relevance, and also because we are evolving our winemaking principles towards greater gentleness and subtlety, 2023 happily offers us a wine of great classicism. It is reminiscent of the noble, racy power, tinged with the energy and vivacity of certain great vintages of earlier times. Taut, unflappable Cabernet Sauvignon is softened by the unctuous flesh of Merlot, in a blend that includes a few drops of Cabernet Franc. A blend that satisfies us with its balance of power, aromatic complexity and freshness. What if the best is yet to come?
Tasting
The refined, racy and complex nose presents greedy notes of zan and blackcurrant, as well as floral nuances of red rose and peony, evolving towards a more mineral, earthy and rooty universe also reminiscent of blond tobacco. The palate is remarkable for its clean attack, evolving into an ample, serene mid-palate, revealing controlled power and balanced Extraction, confirmed by a sapid, greedy finish, with chiseled, precise tannins. Juicy, fruity pastry notes (black and blue fruits) mingle with aromas of cedar, bringing nobility and complexity.
