Château de Camensac

Vineyards have been growing around the Chateau de Camensac, a magnificent 18th century Chartreuse, for several centuries.

Previously called Château Camensac, this Château is a fifth Grand Cru Classé Pauillac of the prestigious 1855 list.

The vineyard covers 75 hectares of deeply drained gravelly slopes.

Varietals: Cabernet Sauvignon: 60% and Merlot Noir: 40%

All the grapes are harvested by hand and the wine is aged in its entirety for 16 to 20 months in barrels, the proportion of new barrels of which varies between 35 and 80% depending on the vintage.

Blends and tasting notes

50% Cabernet Sauvignon

50% Merlot

The wine is bright and limpid. La robe is a dark Bordeaux. The nose is clean and straightforward. Before shaking, notes of redcurrants and raspberries.

After swirling, floral aromas of fresh rose, very light oak and vanilla. The attack is frank. On the palate, very refined tannins in a supple envelope perfect the mid-palate. Fruity and floral aromas are confirmed. The harmonious wine at this stage of evolution is a promise of delicacy.

The finish is very long and evokes a sensation of delicious redcurrant jelly.

Climate

After the harvest, autumn Sec sets in for the long term. Then, from January onwards, as much rain falls in three months as in a year. Mechanical work was complicated, as was pruning. The vines slowed down. With a very hot end to April, it exploded, but the soils remained very moist.

We're noting some light attacks of mildew on the leaves, but nothing abnormal or very worrying. We remain very vigilant in view of the violent attacks of this fungus that are occurring in certain areas of Bordeaux. The very hot summer (Sec) halted the threat.

However, the vineyards were sweating more than normal, with Cabernet Sauvignon suffering the most. The harvest was serene, with extra attention paid to sorting, despite the fact that a few berries were affected. The result is dazzling. Camensac again this year marks its progress towards an increasingly assertive, delicate signature.
