The Château Clerc Milon is one of the most sublime wines in the Pauillac appellation. The lands of Domaine were included in those of the Lafite seigneury as early as the 18th century. In the aftermath of the French Revolution, Château Milon, in reference to the hamlet of Pauillac where it stood, was sold as national property and acquired by the Clerc family, who thus associated their name with it.
The Château Clerc Milon was awarded the title of Cinquième Grand Cru Classé in the famous 1855 classification for the Paris Universal Exhibition.
In 1970, it entered a new era when it was bought by Baron Philippe de Rothschild. Today, the estate is managed by his 3 grandchildren, who bring out the full potential of its exceptional terroir year after year, thanks to state-of-the-art technical facilities and great expertise.
Situated on sandy gravel and clay-limestone soils, the vineyard covers 41 hectares of vines, including 53.5% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc, 2% Petit Verdot and 1.5% Carmenère. The wines are aged for 18 months in French oak barrels, of which 50% are new.
The estate produces a Second wine, Pastourelle de Clerc Milon.
The wines of Château Clerc Milon are precise, complex and finely structured, where the brilliance of the fruit is expressed.
2018, with its velvety texture and density, offers aromatic concentration Rare.
Climatic conditions
Heavy rainfall, violent hailstorms during the winter gave way to a spring with much milder temperatures - that's how we might describe the first half of 2018. The cool weather of March was followed in April by very mild weather, which benefited the vegetative cycle, bringing flowering forward slightly, and was reinforced in June by a warm, sunny period that brought the cycle forward by 5 days.
High humidity, coupled with ambient heat in July, made it difficult to maintain the health of the vines, and it was only through constant effort that our teams were able to pRéserver all the qualities of the vineyard. Fortunately, warm weather Sec then set in for three months, with temperatures sometimes exceeding 30°C, putting a definitive stop to mildew attacks.
Although the first six months of the year were not conducive to a good harvest, the record amount of sunshine, low rainfall and relative dryness that set in during the summer made for a very good harvest: the berries were small but exceptionally rich in sugar and tannin.
Given the advanced vegetative cycle and a hot summer Sec, harvesting began at the end of August for the white grapes and early September for the reds.
At Château Clerc Milon, harvesting began with Merlot on September 17 and ended with Petit Verdot and Carmenère on October 10.
The wines have great color and excellent tannic structure. They are remarkably dense and velvety, with aromatic concentration Rare. Due to the drought, production quantities are down, but the vintage is already one of our greatest successes.

Tasting notes
A deep, crimson color.
Notes of fresh berries, including blackberry, combined with aromas of violets reveal a full, greedy nose. On aeration, spices and licorice notes evoke the ripeness of the fruit, nuanced by mentholated aromas.
The attack is dense and opulent. Silky, abundant tannins unveil a fresh, velvety mid-palate, revealing peppery and bitter chocolate notes that create a savory, harmonious impression.
The well-balanced finish offers remarkable length.
