Synonymous with aromatic finesse and elegance, Château Léoville Poyferré lies to the north of the prestigious Saint-Julien appellation. It was created in 1840 following the various divisions of Domaine de Léoville, and became the property of Baron de Poyferré, who added his name to it.
It was crowned Second Grand Cru Classé in the prestigious 1855 classification. The Cuvelier family, wine merchants, acquired it in 1920. For 40 years, Didier Cuvelier has led the restructuring of the vineyard, respecting the environment and the terroir. His cousin Sara Lecompte Cuvelier took over the reins in 2018.
The vineyard covers 58 hectares of vines, planted with 61% Cabernet Sauvignon, 27% Merlot, 8% Petit Verdot and 4% Cabernet franc. The wines are aged entirely in oak barrels, 80% of which are new, over a period of 18 to 20 months.
Le Pavillon de Poyferré, Second wine of Domaine, is made mainly from Merlot.

Made mainly from Cabernet Sauvignon, with contributions from Merlot, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc, this wine expresses the finesse of the gravelly, clayey soils that characterize the appellation.
The 1988 vintage, marked by a stable growing season and harvesting under ideal conditions, produced a structured wine with good acidity, perfect for long ageing. Carefully vinified in stainless steel vats to pRéserver preserve the freshness of the fruit, the wine was then aged in new barrels, developing complex aromas and a silky texture.
On tasting, this vintage offers evolved notes of ripe black fruit, cedar, leather and undergrowth, testifying to its maturity.
