It was in 1734 that Jacques Fourneaux created a Maison de Commerce de vin de Champagne as he was working with the great Benedictine abbeys who then owned the finest Champagne vineyards.

Jacques Fourneaux started this business in Reims, selling still Champagne red and white wines, followed by sparkling wines from these magnificent vineyards.

He is the third in the history of Champagne to start trading. The Fourneaux joined forces with Antoine Forest in the 1820s. The new business soon prospered under the name Forest-Fourneaux.

For a time, the company occupied the Hôtel le Vergeur in "Reims", before transferring, after the First World War, its business to rue de Tambour in the 13th-century home of the Comtes de Champagne.

In 1932, Pierre Taittinger acquired Château de la Marquetterie near Epernay from the Maison de Champagne Forest-Fourneaux. From 1945 to 1960, the company was managed by François Taittinger, assisted by his two brothers Jean and Claude, and it was during this period that the company moved into the cellars of the Saint-Nicaise abbey, built in the 13th century on Gallo-Roman chalk pits dating back to the 4th century. Then, in 1960, Claude Taittinger took over the helm and gave the company a considerable boost.

Description Taittinger Comtes de Champagne Blanc de Blancs 2013.

Comtes de Champagne Grands Crus Blanc de blancs 2013 de Taittinger is a cuvée that embodies the quintessence of Chardonnay. The only grape variety in this exceptional Champagne, it comes exclusively from the Côte des blancs and in particular the Grands Crus Avize, Chouilly, Cramant, Mesnil-sur-Oger and Oger. Harvested late in October after an exceptional summer, this 2013 vintage reveals the strength and vigor of the grapes.

As is customary for all wines produced by Taittinger, every aspect of the vinification of this Champagne reflects meticulous attention to quality: 5% of the wine is aged in new oak barrels for four months, making a subtle contribution to the complexity of the final blend. As for the maturation period, the house has chosen to let time do its work for ten years, allowing this singular vintage to develop exceptional maturity and intensity, while preserving the brilliance and freshness characteristic of Chardonnay.

To the eye, Comtes de Champagne Blanc de blancs 2013 boasts a bright, luminous color with golden highlights and a fine, delicate effervescence. The bouquet is a symphony of freshness, with ripe citrus and pastry notes intermingling, evolving into more complex, refined aromas of ginger and licorice on the finish. This complexity is underscored by a crystalline texture on the palate, where the liveliness of the bubbles carries a salty, austere minerality that testifies to the grandeur of the terroir.

With its remarkable structure and palpable density, this cuvée promises impressive ageing potential. It goes perfectly with delicate dishes such as seafood, fine shellfish or fish, and is best served at a temperature of 11°C, to reveal all its subtlety and brilliance.
