Le Château Smith Haut Lafitte is one of the must-have names in the Pessac-Léognan appellation, dubbed the "most Graves of Graves" due to the atypical nature of its terroir. Domaine was founded in 1365 and was then named Haut Lafitte for its geographical location.
Then, when Georges Smith, a merchant of Scottish origin, acquired it in the 18th century, he added his name to it and built the Carthusian monastery we know today.
Grand Cru Classé in red in the Graves classification, Château has been owned since 1990 by Daniel and Florence Cathiard, who for several years have been committed to a bio-precision approach that combines innovation and traditional techniques in both vineyard and cellar. The wines are produced organically without chemical inputs, enriched with biodynamic methods that contribute to the expression of the terroir.

"A highly aromatic nose of yellow and white fruits, offering a lovely sensation of freshness. This is followed by great complexity, with delicate notes of acacia flower, lime blossom and charming spicy notes. The palate is surprisingly fresh and smooth. Beautiful freshness on the palate, followed by the full expression of ripeness, unctuosity and fatness brought by perfect ripeness. The palate is broad and powerful, but always supported by a refreshing acid framework. It lasts a long time with opulence, then little by little, freshness predominates, culminating in a delicate, fresh finish. A great perception of sapidity closes this experience on the palate. Aromatically, there's a delicious blend of yellow fruits such as peach, apricot and fresh mango, combined with fresher notes of citrus and pink grapefruit. The floral and spicy dimension, finer and more delicate, then emerges, signing a very beautiful aromatic complexity that concludes a long finish, reflecting the character of the gunflint terroir." Fabien Teitgen, Technical Director
