Rhum Savanna

Savanna is an iconic distillery located on the Indian Ocean island of La Réunion, and is renowned for its production of high-quality rum. Savanna's story is a fascinating combination of tradition, innovation and passion for rum.

The Savanna distillery was founded in 1948 by the Harel family, a Reunionese family involved in sugar cane cultivation for several generations. Reunion Island offers ideal conditions for growing sugar cane, with its tropical climate, rich soils and abundant rainfall. This has created an environment conducive to the production of high-quality rum.

One of Savanna's distinguishing features is its commitment to traditional rum from Reunion Island, known as rhum traditionnel agricole. This type of rum is produced from the fresh juice of sugar cane, unlike industrial rum, which is made from molasses. This production method gives rhum agricole a pure, rich flavor and great aromatic complexity.

Over the decades, Savanna has continued to evolve and innovate. The distillery introduced new sugarcane varieties and modern fermentation techniques to improve the quality of its rums. In addition, Savanna has become famous for its experimentation in rum aging, using a wide variety of French, American and even sweet wine oak casks.

Savanna is also proud of its local roots and commitment to sustainability. The distillery maintains close ties with the local community and strives to pRéserver the natural environment of Reunion Island.

Description Savanna Le Must Ambré Très Vieux Traditionnel.

Founded in 1870, the Savanna distillery has been located in Bois-Rouge, in the north-east of Réunion Island, since 1992. It has greatly contributed to the Island's reputation as a veritable rum terroir. As such, it is one of the Rares distilleries in the world to produce both traditional, agricultural and grand aroma (Jamaican-style) rums in an artisanal manner (from cane production to bottling).

The Must is a blend of traditional and grand aroma molasses rums, distilled in Savalle column stills and aged between 6 and 9 years in ex Cognac casks in the heart of the tropical cellar. No sugar or caramel is added. This is a Small Batch, with only a few casks selected by master blender Thierry Grondin.

The Must has an amber color with copper highlights. It reveals very pleasant notes of fruit salad, pear, peach, banana, cherry, mango, coated with honey, sweet spices and butter. After aeration, the mineral and vegetal notes become stronger, accompanied by acid candy and a lovely, light, toasty woodiness. The palate is complex, with warm aromas of Secs fruit, roasting, caramelized pineapple and mango, baked pear and stone-fruit syrup. The finish is pastry-like and roasted, with stone, milk chocolate ganache, red fruits and ripe eXOs.

This Très vieux traditional Savanna rum, Le Must, richly deserves its name! Enjoy it as a late-afternoon indulgence, with a pretty fruit salad, both eXOtic and from our metropolitan orchards.
