Château Mouton Rothschild

The Château Mouton Rothschild is known to all wine lovers, not only for its exceptional wines but also for its labels signed by artists since the 1945 vintage.

The story of Mouton Rothschild began in 1853, when Baron Nathaniel de Rothschild bought Château Brane-Mouton from Pauillac, renaming it Mouton-Rothschild. In 1922, his great-grandson Philippe de Rothschild took over the reins for the next 65 years, and it was he who raised Mouton Rothschild to the pinnacle of its glory thanks to his determination and doggedness. A quest for excellence pursued by his daughter, Baroness Philippine.

By an official decree issued in 1973 by Jacques Chirac, Minister of Agriculture at the time, Château Mouton Rothschild would be declared the fifth Ier Grand Cru Classé, alongside Château Lafite-Rothschild, Château Haut-Brion, Château Latour and Château Margaux.

Today, Baroness Philippine's three children manage Domaine, always remaining faithful to the work of their grandfather and mother. Domaine remains a place of art and beauty, thanks to its spectacular vat room and its famous Musée du Vin dans l'Art, which brings together the unique exhibition "L'Art et l'étiquette" with works by famous contemporary artists (Francis Bacon, Dali, Braque....the... Description Château Mouton Rothschild 2009.

An exceptional vintage par excellence for the Bordeaux vineyards, 2009 benefited from extremely generous weather conditions which were very favorable for the vine cycle and the ripening of the grapes. A very sunny summer and alternating cool nights and warm days in September allowed the grapes to concentrate their aromas and colors, resulting in a harvest of exceptional quality.

Blend of the 2009 vintage: 88% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Merlot.

The color is intense, still a pronounced purple with subtle tile-like highlights.

On the nose, it seduces from the outset with an aromatic peacock's tail: very ripe black fruits, blackcurrant cream, grilled almonds, smoked wood and blond tobacco.

The entry is silky and the wine offers a perfect balance between a melted tannic structure and an ocean of fruity and peppery spices, licorice and Zan flavors. Rising to a crescendo in power, it ends on a long, persistent and distinguished finish. A great Mouton Rothschild that will continue to age and surprise.

Food and wine pairing:

Château Mouton Rothschild 2009 will be sublimated on a beef fillet with foie gras and cep sauce, a truffled veal mignon cooked with string, a marcassin stew confit with Espelette pepper, a duck breast with Pinot Noir sauce or truffled deer nuts.

For an agreement with cheeses, privilege those with pressed and uncooked paste : cantal, old mimolette, morbier, saint-nectaire and tomme of Savoy. It can also be enjoyed with Brie de Meaux, Gouda or Salers.

It will go well with several desserts such as an Opera cake, a chocolate ganache or a chocolate charlotte.

Ageing potential and tasting:

Château Mouton Rothschild 2009 is the epitome of a great Pauillac with long ageing potential, which can be kept for several more years in the cellar. Its peak will be reached between 2035 and 2040.

However, it can be enjoyed now if it is properly prepared. To do so, take care to place the bottle the night before in a room at a temperature between 15 and 18°C. Open and decant the bottle 6 to 7 hours before tasting so that the wine can reveal its full potential.

The bottles should be kept in the cellar in a dark place, lying down, with an optimal hygrometric degree of 70%.

The care we take when receiving wines in our cellars enables us to detect bottles with imperfections (dirty or faded labels, damaged capsules, etc.). In such cases, they are systematically set aside and never put online! Our preparation team selects only bottles with perfect presentation for your orders!

It is these bottles with slight external defects that we present to you in the "Existe en imparfaite" selection. These bottles are, of course, of "irreproachable" gustatory quality, but suffer from slight defects on the label or cap. We therefore offer them at a preferential price, making the pleasure of tasting them even more affordable.
