Château Mouton Rothschild 2005
Château Mouton Rothschild
The Château Mouton Rothschild is known to all wine lovers, not only for its exceptional wines but also for its labels signed by artists since the 1945 vintage.
The story of Mouton Rothschild began in 1853, when Baron Nathaniel de Rothschild bought Château Brane-Mouton from Pauillac, renaming it Mouton-Rothschild. In 1922, his great-grandson Philippe de Rothschild took over the reins for the next 65 years, and it was he who raised Mouton Rothschild to the pinnacle of its glory thanks to his determination and doggedness. A quest for excellence pursued by his daughter, Baroness Philippine.
By an official decree issued in 1973 by Jacques Chirac, Minister of Agriculture at the time, Château Mouton Rothschild would be declared the fifth Ier Grand Cru Classé, alongside Château Lafite-Rothschild, Château Haut-Brion, Château Latour and Château Margaux.
Today, Baroness Philippine's three children manage Domaine, always remaining faithful to the work of their grandfather and mother. Domaine remains a place of art and beauty, thanks to its spectacular vat room and its famous Musée du Vin dans l'Art, which brings together the unique exhibition "L'Art et l'étiquette" with works by famous contemporary artists (Francis Bacon, Dali, Braque....the... Description Château Mouton Rothschild 2005.
2005 is a great vintage for the Bordeaux vineyard. One of the best in the last twenty years. All the climatic conditions were present to produce a generous harvest: a season marked by constant sunshine without excessive heat, and alternating hot days and cool nights in August and September. The harvest at Mouton Rothschild went smoothly, with berries of excellent aromatic potential.
Blend of the 2005 vintage: 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Merlot, 1% Cabernet Franc.
The color is an intense dark color, almost black, with brilliant garnet tinted reflections.
The nose is intense and complex, with aromas of ripe black fruits, blackcurrant cream, truffle, toasted wood and cardamom. A mature nose and paradoxically still young.
The attack is frank, revealing a fleshy wine that rises crescendo in power and freshness thanks to finely chiseled tannins. It offers a lot of purity with flavors of ripe fruit, coffee and spices, and stretches long until the finish which is precise and endless. A great Mouton Rothschild that is still hiding its game.
Food and wine pairing :
Château Mouton Rothschild will go very well with a marcassin confit with peppers, a roasted saddle of lamb stuffed with spinach and almonds, Angus beef with a black Périgord truffle sauce or a tournedos of Duck Rossini.
For a pairing with cheese, choose uncooked pressed cheeses : Edam, Gouda, Saint-nectaire, morbier, Tomme de Savoie or Salers.
For dessert, enjoy it with a black forest, a crunchy praline entremet or Guillaume Maribeau's extra hazelnut tart.
Ageing potential and tasting :
Château Mouton Rothschild 2005 has a remarkable ageing potential, which can still wait in the cellar to reach its peak between 2028 and 2032.
But it can be perfectly appreciated now if it is adequately prepared. To do this, take care to open the bottle the night before, having placed it in the room at room temperature. If not, open it and decant it ideally 6 to 7 hours before tasting.
The bottles should be kept in the cellar, protected from light, lying down, with an optimal hygrometric degree of 70%.
