Every wine produced by Lalou Bize-Leroy is a gustatory event, and this Puligny-Montrachet 2018 is no exception. This appellation shares with Chassagne the most perfect expression of Chardonnay. At the top of the Blagny hill at an altitude of almost 400 meters, on the edge of the forest, Climat "Sous le Puits" dominates the hillside of the village of Puligny-Montrachet and is the highest Premier Cru located.
Highly impacted by climatic hazards, 2019 is characterized by a low harvest. A Chardonnay in excellent health, with perfect sugar/acidity balance and ripeness, gave birth to this exceptional wine.
Armorizing a golden yellow color with light green highlights, this great Puligny-Montrachet opens with fruity aromas evoking apricot, pear and lime. Notes of resin, salted butter caramel, spices and smoke subtly join the picture. Dense and full-bodied, the texture on the palate is magnificent, simultaneously fat and fluid, thanks in particular to the sharp acidity that gives it freshness and balance. The palate sporadically releases ripe fruit, white fruit and citrus. The intensity of the fruit is moderate, restrained but absolutely precise. It's not exuberant, it's pure, with a huge touch of iodized minerality on the finish, accompanied by a few hints of spice. Irresistible.
A very great wine, which will appreciate a few hours of decanting, and will happily lend itself to a pairing with seabass pan-fried with lemongrass, or lobster with citrus butter.
