Laurent-Perrier

What connoisseur of Champagnes doesn't know Maison Laurent-Perrier, whose sumptuous cuvées possess an almost refreshing taste of history? A veritable benchmark within the circle of great Champagne houses, Maison Laurent-Perrier has always demonstrated an innovative spirit, displaying a very distinctive style of finesse and elegance for two centuries now.

What is the history of Maison Laurent-Perrier?

It was towards the end of the First Empire, in 1812, that André-Michel Pierlot, a former cooper and bottler from Chigny-les-Roses, settled in Tours-sur-Marne as a wine merchant for Champagne. Tours-sur-Marne is a picturesque village located at the crossroads of the Marne's three main wine-growing regions: Montagne de Reims, Vallée de la Marne and Côte des blancs, and is one of only 17 communes to be classified as Grand Cru. In particular, he acquired two plots of land, "Les Plaisances" and "La Tour Glorieux", on which he built his own house.

His son Alphonse succeeded him, but as the latter had no children, it was his cellar master Eugène Laurent who became the owner in 1881. It was he who endowed this small business of Champagne with several annexes in Tours-sur-Marne and pieces of vines in the region's best crus: Bouzy, Tours-sur-Marne and Ambonnay, all classified as Grand Cru. He also had 800 meters of cellars dug to preserve the wines in optimal conditions, a constant that still characterizes the house today.

Following Eugène Laurent's death in 1887, it was his wife Mathilde Perrier who ensured the... See more ...

Description Laurent-Perrier Grand Siècle Itération N°26.

Where Champagnes Millésimés are synonymous with excellence, the house Laurent-Perrier wishes through the cuvée itération to create what nature will never give: the perfect year.

To achieve this, it imposes 3 immutable principles:

3 exceptional years are chosen for their complementarity among the Rares vintages of Laurent -Perrier.

  • A majority of Chardonnay complemented by Pinot Noir from a maximum of 11 Grands Crus selected from the 319 Crus of Champagne.
  • An extended cellar ageing time of 10 years on lees for the bottle format (75 cl) and a few more years for the magnum format (150 cl).
  • A blend of 3 vintages: 2012 for 65%, 2008 for 25% and 2007 for 10%.

2012: winter and spring frosts cut into harvest potential early. The spring rains were offset by a fine summer, producing wines of great finesse with elegant, well-balanced Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs with red fruit aromas.

2008: a Champagne summer with low temperatures and little sunshine for an exceptional vintage. The wines are complex and well-structured, with high quality Chardonnays and Pinots Noirs revealing exceptional aromatic richness.

2007: a summery spring whose effects were attenuated by a mixed summer reveals frank, beautifully fresh wines that will keep over time, with Chardonnays featuring complex white fruit and citrus aromas and Pinots Noirs with yellow fruit aromas.

After 10 years' aging on lees, the very complex nose blends aromas of honeysuckle, lemon, clementine and fresh butter, followed by notes of hazelnut and a touch of honey.

The attack on the palate is all finesse and freshness, with aromas of candied lemon and fresh hazelnut. The palate is silky and mineral with notes of honeysuckle, slivered almond and clementine.

Grand Siècle Itération Nº26 accompanies high-quality produce and refined dishes, land-sea associations, shellfish and noble fish, white meats such as a Thai-style langoustine tartar or Bresse poultry.
