Taittinger

It was in 1734 that Jacques Fourneaux created a Maison de Commerce de vin de Champagne as he was working with the great Benedictine abbeys who then owned the finest Champagne vineyards.

Jacques Fourneaux started this business in Reims, selling still Champagne red and white wines, followed by sparkling wines from these magnificent vineyards.

He is the third in the history of Champagne to start trading. The Fourneaux joined forces with Antoine Forest in the 1820s. The new business soon prospered under the name Forest-Fourneaux.

For a time, the company occupied the Hôtel le Vergeur in "Reims", before transferring, after the First World War, its business to rue de Tambour in the 13th-century home of the Comtes de Champagne.

In 1932, Pierre Taittinger acquired Château de la Marquetterie near Epernay from the Maison de Champagne Forest-Fourneaux. From 1945 to 1960, the company was managed by François Taittinger, assisted by his two brothers Jean and Claude, and it was during this period that the company moved into the cellars of the Saint-Nicaise abbey, built in the 13th century on Gallo-Roman chalk pits dating back to the 4th century. Then, in 1960, Claude Taittinger took over the helm and gave the company a considerable boost.

Description Taittinger Comtes de Champagne Rosé 2011.

The 2011 Comtes de Champagne Rosé embodies the quintessential style of the famous house Taittinger. The particular vintage of 2011, marked by an atypical growing season, required the vines to dig deep into the limestone to hydrate during an early and Sec spring, followed by a wet and cool summer. This contrasting year enabled an early harvest in August, capturing the pure, intense essence of the grapes at a crucial moment in their development.

Composed of 60% Pinot Noir from Montagne de Reims and 40% Chardonnay from Côte des blancs, this Champagne also includes 14% Pinot from Bouzy vinified in red. The latter's long pre-fermentation maceration gives the cuvée a robust tannic structure and voluptuous aromas of red and black fruits.

Visually, Comtes de Champagne Rosé 2011 boasts a brilliant rose-gold color, tinged with light red highlights that underline the exquisite finesse of its bubbles. On the nose, the Champagne is immediately seductive with its aromatic power, where the iodized nuances of the Chardonnays blend harmoniously with the fruity richness of the Pinots Noirs. In more detail, the nose exhales notes of gingerbread, black cherry and acacia flowers, complemented by seductive hints of mandarin peel, mint, licorice and sweet spices such as turmeric and saffron.

On the palate, the attack is delicately fruity, precise and refined, paving the way for a silky, solar tannic structure that reveals the chalky power of the terroir. This wine of great aromatic finesse combines saline freshness with fruity roundness, offering a perfect balance between elegance and intensity.

After more than 12 years maturing in the Gallo-Roman chalk pits of Saint-Nicaise, this Champagne has reached sublime harmony and is now ready to be discovered and enjoyed. Ideal as an aperitif, it is also a perfect accompaniment to delicate dishes such as seafood or fish dishes, whose flavors it complements perfectly.
