Seña

Seña, an exceptional Chilean wine, represents the culmination of a unique collaboration between two giants of the wine world, Eduardo Chadwick and Robert Mondavi.

Founded in 1995, this Domaine embodies the alliance between Californian experience and the exceptional terroir of Chile's Aconcagua region.

The story begins with Eduardo Chadwick, a member of the family that owns Viña Errázuriz, a historic Domaine winery in Chile. In his quest for excellence, Chadwick set out to transcend the traditional boundaries of Chilean wine by collaborating with the legendary Robert Mondavi, a wine pioneer from California. Their shared vision was to create a wine that would reflect the grandeur of Chilean terroir while incorporating Mondavi's expertise.

The Domaine vineyard covers around 42 hectares in the Aconcagua Valley, benefiting from an exceptional terroir composed of diverse soils and ideal climatic conditions. Grape varieties grown include Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Carmenère and Cabernet Franc. The emphasis on sustainability and respect for the environment reinforces the commitment to the preservation of the terroir.

The philosophy is based on the idea that the quality of a wine is intrinsically linked to the health of the vineyards. As such, environmentally-friendly farming practices are implemented to... See more ...

Description Seña 2020.

Although made from biodynamically grown Bordeaux grapes, Seña has a decidedly Chilean heart and soul. This Seña 2020 is a blend of 53% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Malbec, 15% Carménère and 7% Petit Verdot (contributing notably to the acidity), made from grapes harvested in the second week of March.

Its color shows off a beautiful deep violet-red hue. Complex and elegant, it opens with intense aromas of crushed blackberry, blueberry, black cherry and thyme. Refined balsamic and black olive notes follow, along with a seductive hint of iris, violets and white pepper. This sublime, juicy nose with its savory, spicy character also reveals subtle roasted notes of tobacco, tar and cocoa.

On the palate, this impression of a spicy, juicy nectar is confirmed, an energetic, mineral whole with acid balance close to perfection. Full-bodied, its tannins are nonetheless fine and velvety, suggesting a very fine barrel-ageing process. Flavors of red fruit and red plum combine on the mid-palate and persist throughout the finish, accompanied by light notes of rosemary and tobacco.

With splendid length on the palate, this Seña 2020 demonstrates elegance and balance with a full, deep finish. Chile's most iconic wine will be the ideal partner to oven-roasted rack of veal or entrecôte à la bordelaise.
