Opus One
Opus One, an iconic wine born of the alliance between two great wine families, Robert Mondavi and Baron Philippe de Rothschild, embodies elegance, tradition and excellence.
Founded in 1979, Domaine has fused the expertise of these two renowned winemaking dynasties to create a wine of exceptional quality.
The story begins with a meeting between Robert Mondavi, a California wine pioneer, and Baron Philippe de Rothschild, owner of the prestigious Château Mouton Rothschild in France. Their shared vision was to create a wine that would unite the best characteristics of traditional Bordeaux grape varieties with the unique terroir of California's Napa Valley.
The Domaine spans some 67 hectares, located in the heart of Napa Valley. The vines are carefully cultivated to encourage the optimal expression of Bordeaux grape varieties, including Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot and Malbec. The emphasis is on sustainability and preserving the natural balance of the vineyard.
Each vintage is the fruit of a meticulous, artisanal approach to winemaking. Grapes are hand-picked and carefully sorted to select only the very best. Vinification and barrel-ageing techniques are inspired by Bordeaux traditions, while incorporating modern innovations to create a subtle balance between power and finesse.

Description Opus One 2012.
Baron Philippe de Rothschild, owner of the famous Château Bordelais Mouton Rothschild, and iconic Napa Valley winemaker Robert Mondavi worked together to create this cru d'excellence. With its splendid ruby color, the wine exhales aromas of black fruits underlined by scents of undergrowth and graphite. On the palate, it is refined and pure. The silky tannins develop aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry and black cherry. The tasting ends with a long, persistent finish.
